The mission statement of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection lies at the heart of all that we do as a community gathered together for Christ.

Through two different styles of worship we gather on Sundays to hear God’s Word found in the Bible and to share the sacraments God graciously gives us.  At our 8:30 service we use a traditional liturgical style that would typically be found in Lutheran congregations.  The service often includes our vocal and bell choirs and uses liturgies from the worship book Evangelical Lutheran Worship.  Our 11:00 family worship service is come-as-you-are.  It is true, faith-centered, Christ-centered family time. Children of all ages take part and are welcome.  The service includes a special time for youth.  A staffed nursery is available for babies and toddlers.

Our mission statement propels us to be welcoming in all we do.  Visitors worship with us every Sunday.  In Jesus’ name we reach out to the community and serve the needs of others, after all that is the model for the ministry Jesus himself modeled.  “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give is life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)

Resurrection is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States with a little less than 5 million members.  Our connection with the ELCA keeps us grounded in a view of God centered on forgiveness, grace, love, faith and justice.  Paul writes in Galatians that “in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.  As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.  There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26-28)  We are community of equals at Resurrection, called to use our gifts for Jesus Christ and the world.  Our faith in Christ defines who we are.  Our faith in Christ propels us to make Christ known to all.

Resurrection is a Book of Faith Congregation. The purpose of the Book of Faith Initiative is to increase biblical literacy and fluency for the sake of the world. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has made a commitment to encourage all members of our congregations, from children to adults, to dig deeper into our book of faith, the Bible. Do you need a Bible? You can usually find one on the "Guest Table." Take it home with you -- read it--write in it--live it!!

Founded in 1964, Resurrection has been a light for Christ in Oak Forest for two generations.  Come and check us out.  Send us an e-mail.  Give us a call.  You are welcome here!
