Susan Centner - Congregation Council President
The President, in conjunction with the rest of the Congregation Council, has general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation, and in particular its Community life. To that end, everything is done in accordance with the Word of God and the faith and practice of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The President of the Congregation is the representative of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection for legal and business dealings with the community and governmental authorities. The President also assists in the coordination, planning and participation of the congregation with residents, businesses and governmental entities for community events.
As President I pray for the Holy Spirit to enlighten the congregation in decision making, to assist the Pastor in sharing the Word of God and to enlighten all the congregation to live as a community of Christian faith and love for one another. I also pray that the Holy Spirit gives me the discernment to support and explain decisions leading to actions affecting the whole church, keeping in accord with our mission to “Make Christ Known to All”.
I am a Southsider from Chicago to the suburbs. I have had many twists and turns in my life - married, divorced, married and now a widow. I have had many furry friends - two cats and dogs from a variety of different breeds and currently, Emma - a Bedlington terrier who reminds me daily of the joy in being alive.
I have traveled domestically and internationally to Australia and New Zealand and discovered that home is anywhere where your heart is. I am excited about learning and growing, which is stimulated by working a 12 step recovery program. This program has encouraged me to search for God in a community of faith in various traditions and finally, finding the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
